Best Laptop For Oculus Quest 2 In 2023

best laptop for oculus quest 2

With the ongoing hype of metaverse and virtual reality booming, we’ve curated the list of best laptop for Oculus Quest 2 that lets you experience immersive VR.

Oculus Quest 2 is a successor of the previous Quest VR Headset, but with some notable changes in weight, screen, and cost. The Oculus headset is a wireless headset that is mostly compatible with Facebook services. You need to log in with your Facebook account then you can access the VR library.

If you want to connect it with your PC, it requires an optional Oculus Link cable. For users who need a powerful VR experience with flashy graphics, we recommend using the headset tethered with a PC. After that, you can access the vast VR library, advanced VR software, video games from other platforms that support VR, and much more.

You can run Oculus Quest 2 on any compatible device which has a powerful processor (i5-i7 or Ryzen 5-Ryzen 7) discrete or dedicated graphics card and a minimum of 8 GB of DDR4 memory. The integrated GPU devices are strongly not recommendable for VR because they don’t have sufficient graphics power and you’ll end up in an awful VR experience.

The display features a 15.6-inch panel that is pleasant to the eye, has enough brightness, and delivers vivid and rich images whether you play games, scour the internet, or binge-watch Netflix.

Although the panel is not the brightness we’ve seen, it’s got the job done with medium settings inside, and with 80% brightness settings, you can work in a decent light environment.

When you lookout for a gaming laptop, there are two things that need to tradeoff; battery life and cooling. But, not with this monster. Lenovo is certain that it will give up to 8 hours of battery and normal usage and up to 3 hours during heavy tasks such as gaming and video editing. As far as cooling is concerned, you’ll get Lenovo’s latest Coldfront 3.0  technology that can stake against the toughest computing tasks without throwing off too much heat.

If you like to connect to other VR headsets, there is a DisplayPort that lets you directly connect your laptop to a VR headset without needing third-party accessories.

Finally, Lenovo provides a truly marvelous 4-zone RGB keyboard that gives amazing typing feels and keys give instant feedback without any delay. Not to mention, a smooth and roomy trackpad.

Acer Nitro 5
Acer Nitro 5
  • Processor :- Intel Core i5-10300H
  • Graphic Card :- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti
  • RAM :- 8 GB
  • Storage :- 256 GB SSD

Acer Nitro 5 is strictly for budget lovers who have limited money to spends but need the best innards components. It has all the components that can run Oculus Quest 2 lag-free.

You’ll get a 10th generation i5-10300H processor along with a powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Graphic Card. These specs really shine when you run dozens of Chrome tabs and play games on medium to low settings. We’ve played Fortnite and Call of Duty and we’ve achieved 60 FPS on Medium settings, though it got hot in several minutes. We hope Acer would do something about Nitro’s cooling system in the future.

Acer Nitro 5 is a fully plastic build machine, so you need any extra care while traveling or while taking a sip of coffee. It has full gamers look and feels sturdy and durable.

The look is not good for office use, but it sure makes your streaming setup admirably colorful. The keyboard is fast, reliable, and comfortable, and during our testing, we haven’t found any lag or accidental presses. It’s not the best in class, but for gaming and regular typing purposes, it is more than enough. On the flip side, the trackpad is not that good, it’s not smooth and obviously not for gaming.

The 15.6-inch display is good but not great. It has decent brightness and color reproduction, but we don’t recommend it for outside usage and heavy graphics editings tasks.

This budget-friendly gaming machine excels in power and performance but gets short on battery life. If budget is an issue for you then Acer Nitro 5 is the best bang for your bucks when it comes to the best laptop for Oculus Quest 2.

With 15.6 Inch display, you can get QHD resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. The overall build quality is solid and made of strong metal. The thermal is quite astonishing and doesn’t get hot while your play AAA titles. During my Apex Legends gameplay for about 2 hours, the average temperature doesn’t go beyond 78 degrees. Moreover, I haven’t experienced any stuttering.

Portability isn’t a strong factor to purchase this laptop. Being made from metal, it is a heavy machine and weighs around 2.5 kg. We don’t recommend it to carry around. The battery is relatively good for a gaming machine, on normal usages, you can get around 9 hours of power, and while gaming, you can easily get up to 4 hours of juice.

Alienware really shines when it comes to port selection, you’ll get Thunderbolt 4, Display port, regular USB ports, HDMI 2.1, and Ethernet. This makes Oculus Quest 2 experience much better whether you connect wireless or wired.

Alienware M15 R6 has all the bells and whistles to run Oculus Quest 2 lag-free, but it’s quite expensive and probably burns a hole in your pocket.

Asus has crammed it in an extremely slim and light chassis and makes it one of the best lightweight and portable gaming machines. With a sleek design, you are missed on a webcam. Yes, Zephyrus G14 doesn’t have a webcam.

As much as we like its portability, we also become big admire of its display. The 14-inch panel looks really good, sharp, and colorful. It features a Full HD panel with 100% SRGB and 144Hz of refresh rate.

It is armed with AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS processor and can tackle serious gaming tasks without breaking a sweat. The latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Graphics are just outstanding and when it pairs with a Ryzen processor and AMD free sync – it gives a whole new level of gaming performance that you’ve never seen before.

Playing games like GTA V, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077 – I’ve managed to get 100 FPS on high settings.

It has a good keyboard with ten-key to give you a great typing and gaming experience. On the other side, the trackpad is just okay. You probably like to play games through it due to low feedback and hard surface.  The speakers are excellent, though, and produce good sound for games and multimedia.

The cooling technology is really excellent and ensures your laptops stay cool under pressure. MSI uses Cooler Boost technology that increased airflow and keeps down laptops temperatures. Out of the box, it sports 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD to boot up the laptop fast and run multiple apps at once.

Battery life is the one area where MSI has messed up. The battery gives just 4 hours of power on medium usages and it decimates really fast on gaming.

To sum up, MSI GL66 is purely for performance and heavy usage, its short battery life, and bulky design makes it no good for professional purpose.

However, it won’t match the performance 15-inch machine can offer. During our testing, we’ve found a compromise in performance compared to its sibling Razer Blade 15 with the same components. Probably due to squeezing display size.

The keyboard gives a satisfying amount of travel speed and feels responsive. The trackpad feels spacious for a 14-inch laptop and feels super smooth and premium while scrolling through web pages.

For normal users, the battery will give about 8 hours of battery backup and during gaming, you can expect up to 4 hours of power. The ports options are respectable and feature USB Type-A, USB-C type, HDMI, and power plug. For seamless wireless connectivity, it offers Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
